SWIM GOGGLES - WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE OF THE LENSES?

Bookmark and Share

Aqua Sphere and other swim manufacturers offer several types of lens options in all of their goggles, clear, tint, blue and mirror. To make the right decision on selecting the correct lens type, it is important to know where you are going to swim and in what water conditions. Some of the lens options will work well, both indoors and outdoors and some work well in outdoors or indoors.

The clear lens goggles will work best indoors simply because the lens is clear. There is no coloring on the lens to assist you with blocking some of the sun’s bright rays. So if you use this type of lens outdoors beware that you may be squinting while you swim so it is best to use the clear lens indoors.

The tint lens work great both indoors and outdoors and is great on helping you with bright lights and sunrays. This is one of the most popular lenses for adult swimmers and kids.

The blue lens is also suitable for indoors and outdoors as it does not enhance or diminish how your vision is underwater. The blue color on the lens allows you to see everything in a bluish color while you are swimming.

The mirror lens is the same as the tint lens but it has a film on the inside to give it that mirror look. This is mostly recommended for outdoor swimming because the lens is very dark. This is the only lens type that does not allow anyone looking at you to see your eyes which is popular with the triathletes. We should warn you though, if you use the mirror lens in a swimming pool, because of the chemicals, the mirror film will come off within 14-20 months.

Like all sports, you need to find the right equipment for your needs, so know what type of swimmer you are, what water conditions and locations you swim in before you purchase your first pair of swim goggles. Based on this guide, you will be able to make the right choice when it comes to selecting your goggle or swim mask. Remember to try them on and see which goggle works best for you. Based on this information, make your selection and have fun in the water.
