Swimming for post injury therapy is a great way to stay in shape and it allows the injured area to heal faster. This is possible because when the body goes into a pool, the body’s weight, is reduced to 1/10 of what it is on land. By having your body weight less, you are placing less weight and stress on your muscles and joints, thus allowing you to spend more time working out and tiring less. Also by doing your rehabilitation in the water you are helping yourself because oxygen carries better while in the pool, allowing you to maximize your workout. You can spend twice as much time in the pool doing your physical therapy without feeling so tired than doing the same type of therapy on land. This is the primary reason why most Physicians recommend a water therapy vs. a land therapy. Doctors know the benefits and the results of working out in a pool are way better and faster for their patients. If you do not believe me, think about this: Most OBGYN Doctors will recommend that a pregnant woman gets in a pool to do abdominal and shoulder exercises pre and post birth. The reason for that is simple, for the Pre Birth it strengthens the abdominal area and reduces the stiffness of the shoulders that occur when carrying the baby. For Post Birth, the only requirement a Doctor asks of the patient is to make sure all wounds are completely healed since you do want any chlorine to enter the body. By having the new mom continue with her swimming workouts is to again strengthening her abdominal muscles and also its helps with getting rid of the baby fat. So as you can see swimming is the best possible way to help your body heal faster with the least amount of punishment on your body. So please be careful with your injury but do try swim physical therapy, as it is one of the best ways to get your body back 100%.
